Some time ago, rumors concerning an upcoming Google presentation tool were quickly spreading on the Internet after documents revealing interesting information were discovered on Google Docs. Although the search giant refused to comment on the speculations, rumor had it that Google was preparing Presently, a presentation utility able to represent a useful addition to the Office suite meant to compete Microsoft's application. Today, the company decided to confirm the speculations and provide more information about the upcoming service, sustaining it will be released in summer. According to Sam Schillace, Engineering Director, the solution will be an add-on to Google Docs & Spreadsheet and will allow users to create, share and organize presentations straight from the online service.

"We've already freed those of you working in teams from the burdens of version control and email attachment overload when going back and forth on word processing and spreadsheets. It just made sense to add presentations to the mix; after all, when you create slides, you're almost always going to share them. Now students, writers, teachers, organizers, and, well, just about everyone who uses a computer can look forward to having ((a)) real-time, web-based collaboration across even more common business document formats," the Google employee sustained.

The company didn't mention the name of the upcoming solution but sustained that its plans were revealed some time ago, so I believe the service will be entitled, just as expected, Presently. Now, which one would you use? Google Presently or Microsoft PowerPoint? Google's solution will probably be free for all users and accessible through an online interface while the software giant's service will be distributed as a downloadable tool and available only for paying subscribers. As I said a long time ago, the competition is important especially for the customers because it can only create better solutions and improve the performance provided by similar ones.
