In March, Google Chrome continues to be the most used web browser in the world, but its market share has dropped slightly from the previous month, while Safari has once more won over a few people.

According to data coming from StatCounter, Chrome has a worldwide market share of 43.67 percent, slightly under the results from the previous month (43.85 percent). The slip is quite small, but it seems that Chrome is going through an up-and-down phase.

Coming in on the second spot, but far behind, is Internet Explorer with a total market share of 22.55 percent, an insignificant drop from the 22.58 percent from February.

Firefox has also had a slight drop in popularity, going from 18.9 percent in January to 19.24 percent in February and 18.76 percent in March. Mozilla’s browser had the steepest drop from one month to another and it’s unclear what exactly has caused this.

In March, Apple’s Safari had a 9.92 percent share in the entire world, a slight increase over the previous month, while Opera remains the less used of them all with 1.37 percent share.

When it comes to browser version, Chrome 33 took the lead with a 35.14 percent share, while Firefox 27 trailed behind with 12.97 percent. Internet Explorer 11 came in third with 8.27 percent. The list continues with IE 8, Safari for iPad, IE 10, IE 9, Firefox 28, Chrome 32, Safari 7, and Chrome 31.

Once again, Chrome is the most popular browser in most parts of the world. According to a map, Google’s browser came on top in North and South America, Russia, a good part of Europe, several African nations, India and other middle-eastern nations, as well as Australia.

Firefox took the top position among people’s preferences in most African nations, Germany, Poland, Iran, Myanmar and Indonesia. Internet Explorer is quite popular in Greenland, Chad, South Africa, China, Japan, and Papua New Guinea.

The data provided by StatCounter is quite different from that offered by other similar services. For instance, NetApplication reports a completely different set-up. In their chart, Internet Explorer takes the deal with 57.96 percent market share, while Firefox and Chrome battle it out for the second spot. Chrome won out with 17.52 percent in March, while Firefox came on third with 17.26 percent.

It’s unclear which one of the sources is correct, since they use different measuring techniques, but the truth is probably somewhere in between.
