Finally, the search engine giant releases its Internet browser

The news about Google's upcoming web browser, the Chrome, has been flying around the Internet all day long, our editors writing some comprehensive reports about it earlier today. However, it would seem that the search-engine giant has finally decided to let the downloading begin and so, without further ado, we give you the Google Chrome, right here on Softpedia (just the Windows version, for the time being, with the Mac and Linux versions scheduled to arrive in the near future).

What we'll be able to provide here (besides the download link, of course, and some very interesting screenshots) is some first-hand impressions regarding the way in which this software works. And that’s because, for now, there are no new statements from Google regarding the Chrome, just an entry by Brian Rakowski, product manager, on the Google official blog, where he announces the product’s launch and provides a few other minor details.

As far as the look of the Chrome is concerned, my first impression on the interface was that it looked just like a very elaborate cartoon, or a comic, if you will. It’s very simple, yet fully functional, providing access right from the start to just about every important feature an average user might need, whether we’re talking about actual browsing, opening new tabs (with the conveniently placed “plus” button) or making and visiting bookmarks.

From the point of view of functionality, the Chrome seems to be running a LOT faster than both IE8 and Firefox 3.0, whether we’re talking about Flash or non-flash websites. Plus, it also offers users that very handy privacy feature, which allows them to delete their browsing history, as well as some other extras, which we’ll further detail in the future.

These are only a few thoughts, after playing with the Chrome for a brief time… for a more in-depth analysis, keep in touch with Softpedia’s reviews section.
