It seems Sony's been quite actively leaking more or less secret info lately since, beside the rumored MacBook Air rival we've talked about earlier, the Japanese company is allegedly also working on a new netbook running Google's Chrome OS.

Of course, the report leading to this rumor (coming from Sony Insider, a reputable source of inside information related to all things Sony), provides very little info on what we should expect from this future product and, more importantly, the moment when such a netbook might make it to the market, but does nevertheless offer some interesting information on what we might actually be able to expect from it.

So, it seems that we'll be talking about an 11.6-inch product, but, contrary to what most people might have expected, it won't be an Atom-powered machine, but rather one built around NVIDIA's Tegra 2 platform, which is, admittedly, not that common a choice for a netbook.

Anyway, the rest of the features offered by this portable computing system are more or less in tune with what we've come to expect from Chrome OS netbooks, including here 1GB of RAM memory, as well as 16GB of flash memory for storage purposes, which is a lot better than the 8GB typically provided by netbook platforms designed to run the operating system from Sony.

Furthermore, as expecting from most business-oriented computing solutions to arrive on the market over the course of 2011, either 3G or 4G connectivity modules will also be built-in, plus GPS and Bluetooth ones, although those will only be enabled by a later version of the Chrome OS.

All in all, should this rumor prove to hold some truth to it, then Sony might have made quite an intelligent move, given the fact that the popularity of the first batches of netbooks running Chrome OS will certainly be quite high (after all, we'll be talking about an impressive that many people will be willing to try out for themselves).
