A new preview version of Google's browser is offered to users

Google's Chrome browser has just received another preview version that allows users to try out the feature lineup of the next stable release way ahead of the public debut scheduled to take place in a couple of months.

Google Chrome Dev 37.0.2054.3 is a build that's still part of the developer channel, which means that it's still in the very early stages of development, so a number of bugs and issues could still exist in the app.

As a result, it's only intended for developers and power users who actually have the time and knowledge to diagnose bugs and send reports to Google in order to help the company fix these issues and provide improved performance in future builds.

As you could easily guess since we're talking about Google, this new Chrome version is available on all supported platforms, including Windows, Linux, and Mac, so everyone running an older dev build of Chrome should update as soon as possible in order to make sure that most of the bugs are fixed.

This dev build is particularly important for Windows users because it also includes 64-bit packages which are said to be more secure and faster as compared to the 32-bit counterparts.

Google said in a blog post announcing these new 64-bit versions that speed, security, and stability have been greatly improved thanks to 64-bit technology, so expect the new build to offer a 25 percent improvement in performance.

“64-bit allows us to take advantage of the latest processor and compiler optimizations, a more modern instruction set, and a calling convention that allows more function parameters to be passed quickly by registers,” Google said.

“With Chrome able to take advantage of the latest OS features such as High Entropy ASLR on Windows 8, security is improved on 64-bit platforms as well. Those extra bits also help us better defend against exploitation techniques such as JIT spraying, and improve the effectiveness of our existing security defense features like heap partitioning.”

We've already tested the new 64-bit version of Chrome and it actually proved to be highly unstable, so do not install it on production machines where stability and reliability are critical. These builds are only here for testing purposes, so give them a try if you'd really want to see what the new Chrome 64-bit for Windows is all about.
