Google updated the beta channel for Chrome browser to build number 24.0.1312.5. It is currently available for all supported platforms (WindowsMacLinux and Chrome Frame) and, apart from features aimed at developers, it also marks a milestone as far as overall speed optimization is concerned.

As per Google’s measurement in Octane (a JavaScript engine benchmark tool), the fresh beta release is 26.3% faster than version 15 of Google Chrome. Although the optimization is not drastic compared to the previous build, it keeps the trend going.

Octane benchmark is designed to calculate the performance of real-world web applications.

The tweaking required to make Google Chrome faster than ever is not limited to JavaScript, as the developer has also put an effort into reducing the startup time of the browser. On the same note, the code is closely monitored in order to detect the parts that slow Chrome down.
