A major Google Chrome update has been posted on the Stable channel for Mac, Linux and Windows users. Google Chrome 5.0.375.55 delivers a wide range of fixes, most of which concern the security side of the browser, as noted by Anthony Laforge, of the Google Chrome development team.

“Google Chrome 5.0.375.55 has been released to the Stable channel for Linux, Mac and Windows,” Laforge reports for Google. The man proceeds to list the security fixes incorporated in this release, but not before pointing users to the Chromium security page for more details on these bugs and how they’ve been addressed. Laforge adds that the referenced bugs may be kept private until a majority of Chrome users are up-to-date with the fix, and finally posts the security fixes in question (reproduced below).

Laforge also mentions that Google’s developers were also able to fix a number of minor issues with the browser, “such as non-exploitable crashes, hangs and other annoyances.” The post credits several members of the Google Security Team and the Google Chrome Security Team for finding and resolving these issues through coding. An employee of Skyrecon Systems is also credited for assisting Chrome developers in fixing security bugs in the browser.

“Also, we would like to extend our thanks to the following people who helped find bugs so we could fix them before they ever affected the stable channel: Robert Swiecki; Google Security Team, Alexey Proskuryakov; Apple, Florian Rienhardt; BSI, and Ben Davis,” Laforge’s post ends.

As usual, those looking for more details about the new features in this release (changes since the latest stable release - version 4.1) are encouraged to visit the Official Google Chrome blog, here. Softpedia readers can download the latest version of Google Chrome for Mac using the link below.
