Google developers have promoted to stable the latest Chrome 42 branch of the famous Internet browser, and they have declared it to be the answer to life, the universe and everything.

The Google Chrome 42 branch has been in the works for some time now, and quite a few improvements have been made to the browser, including some for the apps, extensions and Web Platform APIs, not to mention all the stuff that's been enhanced under the hood.

As it has come to be expected with each new Google Chrome stable release, the developers also provides a list of the most important exploits that have been found by the community. This is a regular occurrence, although it looks like the 42 branch features more than its usual share.

"We would also like to thank all security researchers that worked with us during the development cycle to prevent security bugs from ever reaching the stable channel. The total value of additional rewards and their recipients will be updated here when all reports have gone through the reward panel," is also noted in the release notes.

"The answer to life, the universe and everything"

According to the changelog, a new "Manage accounts" bubble has been implemented, NPAPI plugins are now used if any plugin policies have been set, and a bug with the volume control has been corrected.

The importance of the version number for this particular Google Chrome release hasn't escaped the attention of the devs, and they have completed the changelog with an important reveal: their application is finally "The answer to life, the universe and everything."

You can download Google Chrome 42.0.2311.90 for Linux from Softpedia, or the Windows and Mac OS X versions from the same location. Please keep in mind that the Linux version only features DEB and RPM packages, which means that it's tricky to get the application on operating systems that don't support these formats.
