The Beta branch of the Google Chrome browser, the Internet browser developed by Google, has been updated yet again and the developers have made a series of changes and improvements.

The second release in the Google Chrome 38 Beta branch is now out and the devs are working to bring some fixes and other smaller changes to the application. Even if this version of the software is much more stable and better than the Alpha branch, it's still under development and there is a good chance that it might crash.

According to the changelog, the behavior of ReleaseSession() has been changed from Close() to Remove(), the large raster tasks are no longer infinitely throttled, an OEM menu issue has been fixed, resizing the menu too large can no longer cause clipping, a bug regarding the GSM function has been fixed, the 'unlocked' icon has been changed so it's more distinguishable from the 'locked' icon, the avatar button text is now displayed at the same size all the time, the screen is now prevented from sleeping when the desktop is being captured, and GestureNav has been fixed on HDPI displays.

Also, the refresh token is no longer invalidated on transient errors, the Reset Settings section in Advanced Settings is no longer hidden by default, a few minor easy unlock bugs have been fixed, support for hard locking has been added, reloading a tab that crashed in background is now working properly, the name input is now disabled when the selection is empty, a private API for establishing an insecure Bluetooth connection has been added, the Easy Unlock manifest has been updated to support querying device information during CryptAuth enrollment, KDE Wallet backward compatibility is now working properly when (de)serializing FormData, and the legacy default profile names have been updated.

The Google Chrome developers only provide two kinds of binary files, deb and rpm, and no source. If you are not using a Linux distribution capable of reading this type of files, you will have to wait until it hits your repositories.

It's possible that the current generation of Google Chrome will not work properly on websites that have Java elements, but that cannot be avoided.

As usual, a complete list of changes can be found on the official website.
