14 DAY TRIAL // The Google Chrome Internet browser has just advanced to version 37.0.2062.120 and packs a few minor features, a Flash update, and some bug fixes.
Interestingly enough, the Google Chrome devs didn't move the version number to 38, as everyone was expecting. The reason for this decision might have something to do with the latest security fixes. It's possible that the developers chose not to wait until the 38.x stable branch was ready and pushed another update in the stable branch instead.
Usually, there are quite a few Beta and Development versions out before a Stable release is made. That policy hasn't changed, but sometimes it's necessary to push some updates immediately. The Windows platform, for example, was plagued by a bug that affected the way some websites were rendered, and this latest version takes care of that issue.
Google Chrome 37 remains the most advanced stable version available
The Google developers don't share details about the security issues, and that happens for a very good reason. Only the people who are actively working on those issues know what they are about, and regular users don't really need details about what's been fixed.
According to the changelog, a crash that happened when a user clicked on Advanced link in Blocking CERT_VALID Interstitial page has been fixed, a crash that occurred when adding a chromium sink to a remote audio track or adding a track to peerconnection more than once has been corrected, the pages are now scaled down from 125% back to 100%, large raster tasks are no longer infinitely throttled, reloading a tab that crashed in background is now working properly, and the way debug_daemon_log_source gets the list of profile dirs has been corrected.
Also, the DBus timeout in cryptohome calls has been increased to 2 minutes, codereview.settings have been moved to GIT, some OEM menu issues have been fixed, the correct key string is now generated to the IME extensions for media keys, and numerous other smaller fixed have been added.
Keep in mind that the Java support on the Linux platform for Google Chrome has been discontinued, so it's likely that some of the websites that use Java won't work properly.
It's also worth noting that the update process for Google Chrome on Linux is different from the one on Windows and Mac OS X. In order to get the latest version you will need to perform a system update. The new version will not download automatically on Linux.
