Adobe introduced a brand new version of its Flash Player software yesterday, thus fixing a number of security vulnerabilities for users on all supported platforms.

As it happens every month, Google Chrome, which integrates Flash Player directly and no longer requires users to install it manually, received a new update to introduce Adobe’s changes, so consumers running the stable version of the browser are recommended to get the fresh build as soon as possible.

According to Google Chrome engineer Matthew Yuan, the new Google Chrome 36.0.1985.143 for Windows, Mac and Linux comes with a collection of 12 security fixes, some of which are addressing bugs that could allow an attacker to compromise a computer with the help of a malicious website containing Flash items.

Adobe said in a security advisory that the Flash Player vulnerabilities that it fixed yesterday could enable an attacker to take control of an unpatched system, which does nothing more than to emphasize the need to update as soon as possible in order to block any malicious activities against your computer.

“Adobe has released security updates for Adobe Flash Player 14.0.0.145 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh and Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.394 and earlier versions for Linux. These updates address vulnerabilities that could potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. Adobe recommends users update their product installations to the latest versions,” Adobe explained.

At the same time, Google also revealed that this Chrome version would address a number of other security flaws found in the browser, some of which were reported by third-party researchers across the world.

For example, Collin Payne reported a use-after-free vulnerability in web sockets to Google, receiving a bounty of $2,000 (€1,500) in reward for his submission, while Antoine Delignat-Lavaud found an information disclosure in SPDY. Both issues had been fixed, Google said.

Additionally, the company’s very own security engineers also implemented various fixes from internal audits, fuzzing and other initiatives, the company added, so it’s safe to say that this is one of the most secure versions of Google Chrome that are currently available for download.

Since we’re talking about a security update, everyone is recommended to deploy the new version of Google Chrome as soon as possible, especially when visiting websites hosting Flash Player content is part of the daily routine.
