Google Chrome 18 has debuted on the Chrome OS platform. With Chrome 17 already in the beta channel, it was about time dev channel users were updated. Google Chrome 18.0.1010.2 is part of Chrome OS 1590.2.0.

The update comes with the usual array of bug fixes as well as performance, stability and security improvements. It also comes with improved WiFi stability as well as better system hardening.

Unfortunately, the update also comes with a few known issues. External storage devices will not automount. Users have to login with the Guest account for the feature to work.

There is also a problem with the login system, for users that have changed their passwords or for Chromebooks which come with R11 or earlier versions of Chrome OS, aka those with Google Chrome 11. The workaround is to either erase the stateful partition or do a full machine recovery.
