Google has updated the beta channel for Chromebook owners. Google Chrome 17.0.963.43 Beta is now available, part of Chrome OS 1412.142. Desktop users, i.e. those running Google Chrome on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux have already been updated to Chrome 17.0.963.44 Beta.

The latest Chromebook beta update comes with a number of fixes addressing stability and UI issues.

The latest beta also introduces a Verizon activation and top-up portal. The portal includes options for recurring billing, for per-paid monthly plans, and enables users to buy additional data allowance for the month before it is all used up.

It also simplifies the activation and the top-up process as well as removes the need for a credit card to use the free 100MB a month plan option.
