Google has announced the introduction of a new feature for its Google Video service, launched in this year's January.

Up until now, in order to view the returned results, users have had to install an application called Google Video Viewer, but this won't be necessary anymore, announced Peter Chane, Senior Business Product Manager for Google Video.

Users will be able to play videoclips directly from the browser and Google has also introduced a series o buttons that enable functions like pause, skip forward and skip backward.

The service, which used to allow only Windows users to watch the videoclips, will also be available to Linux and Mac users.

Google Video Search will also introduce a preview function, which enables visitors to watch a few seconds of the video material they are interested in.

Google is trying with these changes to deal with competition coming from Yahoo Video Search and Blinkx, the two sites indexing more content than Google Video.

In other Google news, it seems that Google has decided to bury the hatchet with CNET.com. After CNET has published an article with personal information about Eric Schmidt, Google's CEO, the companies' officials said that they won't talk to CNET until 2006.

But today, when the search engine has turned seven, Eric Schmidt gave CNET a telephonic interview.
