Everywhere you look now, all you hear is 3D this and 3D that. Hollywood blockbuster Avatar broke through all existing ticket sales records thanks to its stunning use of 3D technology. The TV screen seems to be the next place where 3D is heading, but Google is now thinking at even smaller screens. After years of research, the company is ready to unveil one of its greatest achievements to date, 3D Street View.

Ever wondered what your house looked like in three dimensions but couldn't be hassled with the task of actually going outside? Then this new feature is for you. All you've had until now were plain, boring two-dimensional images which really didn't do you luscious dwelling justice. Not any more, with the new 3D view Street View everything gets a third dimension, just like in real life.

And if your home doesn't happen to be on a street currently available on Google Street View, you can always visit the world and experience it like never before. You've never seen the Eiffel Tower like you can now in Google Street View. Except, of course, if you've actually been there.

"Today our esteemed team of physicists from Google are proud to announce that they have discovered an extra dimension in our universe. And like other groundbreaking discoveries of black holes, superheros, and space ships, this one was also made by using Street View on Google Maps," Google announced the major technological advancement.

By now, you're probably thinking "oh, those Googlers, such jokers they are" because, as you may be aware, today is April Fools’ day. So this must be some sort of April Fools’ joke, right? Well, no. It's an actual feature in Google Maps Street View. OK, so it's an April Fools’ joke too, but the 3D view is really working, just check it out. And the Street View team isn't the only one adding an extra dimension, Google Books is going 3D as well.
