Google has just announced Google Cardboard 2.0, a virtual reality headset made of cardboard. The application that's been available in Google Play Store for quite some time now helped users with the set up of the Cardboard viewer.

The search giant launched the Google Cardboard virtual reality headset in order to make VR available to everyone. This is clearly a much cheaper version of other VR headsets that are available on the market or will launch in the not so distant future.

The cardboard VR isn't hard to make and as long as you have a compatible smartphone, you will be able to take advantage of hundreds of apps that are now available for this device.

According to Google, there are more than 1 million cardboard viewers in the world, which is an encouraging number for those who develop apps and games for VR headsets.

Cardboard 2.0 brings support for 6-inch devices

With the Cardboard 2.0 that Google announced today, users will be able to assemble the VR much easier and considerably faster. Why's that? It's simple, the old cardboard VR could be assembled from 12 pieces, but the new one has only 3 folds.

It's also worth mentioning that Google Cardboard 2.0 brings support for smartphones up to 6-inch, which wasn't available until now.

Last but not least, Google released a brand new SDK for iOS developers as well, so those who want to create iOS apps for Google Cardboard will be able to do so.

At the same time, iOS users can now learn to create their own cardboard VR. The only thing you need is to order the package and download the application that helps you to set up the Cardboard viewer.

You can now download Google Cardboard for iOS for free via App Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by iOS 8.0 or later.
