Internet Explorer 7 is one of the browsers that were meant to improve the browsing experience, being one of the most expected products provided by Microsoft. IE7 brings tab-bar navigation to the Microsoft's browser, a component that was inspired by Mozilla's Firefox.
Because Internet Explorer 7 was so important for the Internet users, many companies decided to modify and optimize the browser with the services they offer.
Some time ago, Yahoo released Internet Explorer 7 optimized for Yahoo, creating a special webpage just for this software solution.
Now, Google decided to launch its special version of the browser with its personal
website that was meant to present the features of the application. But, it seems like Google's webpage is exactly the same as Yahoo's. Incredible or not, a Yahoo employee discovered the similarity and posted a message with screenshots to show it.
"Was some product marketing person so uninspired that he or she decided it was "good enough" to just copy us? Seriously, click those images and look at the full-sized versions. They're remarkably similar. And I've checked with our PR group to make sure that this wasn't just a template that Microsoft gave to all partners. It's not. Yikes. Even the toolbar in the Google version of the picture has bits of Yahoo still in it," Jeremy Zawodny said.
Matt Cutts, a Google employee, also published a message on his blog to respond to the accusations: "I can only speak for me personally on this. If Jeremy looked into it and says that it wasn't a template from Microsoft, I believe him. That would mean that the Yahoo! page was used as a template for Google's IE7 promo page. I can't say why someone at Google would decide to do that, but to the Yahoo! UI designer whose page was copied: my apologies. In my personal opinion, it sucks when someone else copies a page layout without attribution."
After all users remarked the similarity between the two pages and reported it to multiple employees, Google decided to modify the page that is now different from Yahoo's IE7 homepage. If you want to see the screenshots taken by Yahoo's employee you can visit
