News of Eric Schmidt's departure as CEO at Google hasn't really gotten people worked up, at least not initially, partly because Google revealed a very strong fourth quarter, partly because no one saw this coming. But now that the dust has settled, some theories about the move are beginning to shape up. At the same time, others are talking about Schmidt future, apparently, in television.

The New York Posts has it on good authority that the soon-to-be former Google CEO is thinking about a career in TV as his day to day duties at Google seem to be shrinking.

Apparently, Schmidt has been talking to CNN executive producer Liza McGuirk about a show with him as a host. In fact, there's even a pilot, shot in August.

However, according to those that have saw it, it's not exactly great, actually the words used were "complete disaster." Still, Schmidt is said to have been thinking about a TV job for over a year now.

Schmidt is no stranger to TV appearances and has been a regular guest on some CNN shows. Schmidt has also been Google's voice for a decade now and is not shy about appearing at various conferences.

That said, he's not exactly the TV host type and some of his past year's comments, mostly about privacy, have come back to haunt him.

Then again, he's worth well over $5 billion and doesn't really need to work for a living. And there aren't that many places where he could go from Google without feeling like a demotion.

Another speculation is a political career for Schmidt. But, while he may fit right in at Davos, he's not the typical American politician. Others coming from a successful tech background failed to get much headway in politics in the US. For the time being, he's still Google's CEO for a few more months and will probably continue to be an important advisor for a lot longer.
