Google runs dozens of services, so you'd be forgiven if you haven't heard of all of them. Google Bookmarks is probably one of the company's more obscure products, but it has been around for ages and does see its fair share of use. It got a bit of spotlight when Google introduced
the 'star' feature on its search engine recently, but it may be getting a much bigger revamp soon. A new Google Bookmarks design is currently in testing, which will allow users to create bookmark lists and share them with the world.
The company hasn't made any official announcement yet, as it is almost always the case with experimental features. The new Google Bookmarks site can be accessed
here, but most people will get the old version by default for now. The new design comes with plenty of aesthetic changes and things get moved around a bit, but the biggest change is the new lists feature.
Basically, it allows you to group your bookmarks based on what criteria you want and, this is the interesting part, you can then share these lists with everyone. This could be useful, for example to share a bunch of websites related to a topic with someone interested, but most people will probably prefer other ways of doing this rather than Google Bookmarks.
"We're working hard to improve Bookmarks and make saving and sharing stuff on the web easier than ever. That's why we've created lists. Like labels, lists let you organize your stuff into categories. But they can do so much more!," the Google Bookmarks help page reads. "For example, lists have the smarts to pull the most important information (like maps and reviews) from the sites you care about, and put it in a single place. You can easily see when a site in your list has been updated. Sharing and collaboration is easy, making lists an ideal way to plan a trip, research a purchase, or organize an event," Google
explains.
