Doodles are a regular occurrence at Google these days and the company has been running localized doodles for quite some time too. The most obvious examples are the various doodles Google showcases for the national days of the countries it's available in.

Sometimes, Google just paints its logo in the country's flag colors, but sometimes the company puts a little more effort into it.

For example, it's now running a doodle for Romania's national day. You'll notice a few people dancing in traditional attire, replacing the two 'Os' in Google, an image with a lot of symbolism for most Romanians on this day.

Bing is also doing something for the occasion, running an image of the Bran Castle in Romania, best known for all of the Dracula related lore.

I knew little about Romania before this; it's one of the most interesting features of the year. Could we get Vlad in the White House, just for one term? donna

We would happily put him in charge here in Romania if he'd still be around :)

It's fascinating to separate the Romania of legend from the modern-day country aspiring to catch up with other EU nations. I hope that in the pursuit of modernization, Romania does not lose its unique brand of culture and appeal. It is a beautiful country, and it would be a shame to exchange its rich heritage with misguided perceptions in the name of "progress". Hopefully the transformation will be handled carefully and thoughtfully, preserving all that is wonderful about Romania and her people. ~Mainestreamer
