Google has debuted a rather interesting new option in Gmail, if you're a Google+ user that is, the ability to reply to notifications straight from the inbox. The best part about this is that, if you're not a Google+ user, you won't even notice the feature.

"Notification emails are a great way to keep up with what's happening in the Google+ stream: whether someone mentions you, comments on your post, or shares with you directly. It's not always enough to just read these updates, however; sometimes you want to respond right away, right from your inbox," Google wrote.

"The good news is that starting today, you can reply to Google+ notifications from Gmail," it announced.

Of course, replying to social networking notifications via email is nothing new, plenty of people do it on Facebook.

Depending on what you use the site for, for example if you used it mostly for private messages, granted not the best use of the site's capabilities, you may spend more time interacting with Facebook via email than the actual site.

Now, you can do that in Google+ as well, notifications can be replied to via the regular website, via the mobile apps or even via a desktop or mobile email client, like Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook.

But if you use the regular Gmail site, you get access to more than just replies, Google+ comes to your inbox. You'll be able to see the post in full, see the comments, comment on it yourself, see who has +1'ed it and add your +1 to it.

Pretty much anything you can do with a post on Google+ you can now do in Gmail. This is a big step and quite an important one. Not a lot of people love email, but few don't use it. Many people always have a Gmail tab open and they can now use it to keep up with Google+ as well.
