With Google Apps for your Domain, the Mountain View Company will step onto the corporate software market, delivering an array of Web based solutions addressing email, communications and workflow
issues. "Now you can offer private-labeled email, IM and calendar tools to all of your users for free, so they can share ideas and get things done more effectively. You can design and publish your organization's website, too. It's all hosted by Google, so there's no hardware or software for you to install or maintain," explained the company.
Google Apps for Your Domain aims to center Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar and Google Page Creator programs on a singular platform. Centralizing basic corporate activities, the service will also comprise an add-free premium solution, offering advance management and compliance features, but Google failed to produce the financial details associated with the variant.
"This platform isn't by any means an alternative to Windows," explained Dave Girouard general manager of Google's enterprise division. "We are not really out there to eliminate any applications. We are looking to introduce new ways to solve problems people have been having for years. If we do it right, we get the best of both worlds -- very consumer-friendly software, but also low-cost business applications. One of the fundamental benefits of the software as service approach is that you can just turn on new features over time."
