Google announced yesterday that a new update had been released into the wild for Android-based mobile phones and for iPhone/iPod Touch devices, offering a new image search feature for Google Image Search. Basically, the new feature allows users to see up to 20 images per page at once.

According to the company, users will then be able to see the detail page of any image that they are interested in, view a large thumbnail of the image or go to the website where the image originates from, as well as view the image by itself in full size.

The new Image Search comes with more new features, including the ‘search by style’ section, which will enable Android or iPhone/iPod Touch users to filter their searches according to different categories, such as faces, clip art, line drawings, or photo content. While present with the standard Google image search for a few months now, this new feature has become available for mobile phone users only through the recently announced update.

According to Google, the new Image Search is available for owners of said devices who live in the United States, the United Kingdom and Japan. Given the limited number of countries that the feature is available in, some users already expressed their discontent in this regard. Hopefully, Google will soon make it available for those who live in other areas as well.

In the meantime, those in the US, UK or Japan who have an Android-based handset, an iPhone, or iPod touch will only have to go to Google on their devices and then hit “Images” before performing a search, to be able to enjoy the new features brought by the update Google announced for its users.
