Since Google added support for non-Gmail addresses to its email client in Android devices, the application added quite a lot of new users in the last couple of months.

Android smartphones and tablets allow users to add their email accounts, but Gmail enables users the option to check them all in one place.

Yahoo Mail, Outlook or Exchange accounts are all supported in Gmail for Android, which should make it more appealing to users.

However, the application still has some bugs and issues that Google hasn't been able to address yet. The good news is developers have been hard at work and will soon deliver a new update that should increase the application overall performance.

The new changes will be rolled out over the next couple of days

Google has just announced that over the next few days, users will see a few improvements to the Gmail application for Android based on their feedback with more coming soon.

While there should be many changes included in the update, Google only listed the most important ones. In this regard, one of the improvements added is the option to tap on people’s avatars, which allow users to see recent conversations, contact info, and more.

Another improvements would be the fact that support for non-Gmail addresses (IMAP) is now more reliable and adding additional accounts is a smoother experience.

Additional improvements and new features for those using devices powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop have been implemented as well.

That being said, you should expect the update adding these new features and improvements to arrive on your Android device in the next couple of days.

If you don't have the application installed yet, you can now download Gmail for Android for free via Google Play Store. The application should be fully compatible with all devices powered by Android 2.3 and up.
