Google Reader fans from every corner of the world reported that their favorite web-based RSS client was down for a considerable period of time, without any official announcement from the Google engineers. The Reader side of Google Groups was assaulted with complaints posted by the users from numerous countries who sustained the service is unavailable as no feeds are updated. "Hi to all, this morning my Google reader doesn't work. I haven't
received any feed and this is impossible. Have you any alert about this problem?" the first message said.
Although I'm a huge Google Reader fan and I use the service every day, I wasn't affected by the problems. At this time, the solution works quite well and there's no sign of any issue that may affect the feeds. After a few hours, Mihai Parparita, member of the Google Reader team, posted a message on the Google Group topic to inform users that the issue was fixed and the product can be used without any problem.
"Very sorry about this, feeds should be correctly refreshing again. They will catch up on updates over the next few hours," Mihai Parparita, Google Reader Engineer, said after some time since the unavailability was first reported.
However, the Google official didn't offer any explanation for the problems so it's quite unclear what went wrong and if there's any chance for the service to be affected again.
In the recent period, Google Reader was continuously affected by similar problems. As TechCrunch reports, the web-based service also reported issues on June 11 when some of the users sustained they lost their data and there was no way to get it back.
As you probably know, Google Reader is a web-based RSS client that allows you to read feeds and latest headlines from a simple online interface. As usual, the service is available for free and, even if it is a part of the Google Labs, the way it works is quite impressive despite the recently-reported issues.
