The official Google+ iOS application has been updated to add support for iPod touch and iPad, though early tests indicate the software is still not native on the 9.7-inch screen of the iPad.

Instead, it appears as if Google engineers merely allowed the iPad to magnify the existing interface originally designed for the 3.5-inch screen of the iPhone.

However, the 1.0.2.1966 update is still good news because the iPad hadn’t been previously supported. The complete changelog, according to the official description on the iTunes App Store, follows below:

What's New in Version 1.0.2.1966

- Huddle settings - Aggregated circle add notifications - iPod touch & iPad support - Performance and stability improvements

For those who are not very familiar with Google+, it’s a new service from the Mountain View giant that aims to shift some attention away from Facebook and direct it to own social networking offerings, like Circles, Stream, and Huddle.

“Google+ for mobile makes sharing the right things with the right people a lot simpler,” the developers explain.

“Huddle lets you send super-fast messages to the people you care about most. And no matter where you are, the stream lets you stay in the loop about what your friends are sharing and where they’re checking in.”

Finally, “Circles let you share the right things with just the right people.”

Those with a Google Account can log into Google+ instantly and start adding friends.

If you don't already have a Google Account, upon downloading the iOS app you'll be asked for your email address, and you'll need to create a password during sign up.

Google+ iOS is now compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later, which means all devices starting with iPhone 3G are supported.
