Google Maps is the most popular online map service on the Internet because it allows users to view satellite imagery from a simple web-based interface. Because it managed to cover almost the entire world, Google wants even more and released an amazing feature able to allow users to design their own maps. The new function, code name My Maps, is a part of the Google Maps service and can be used for free by any visitor of the page. If you login to Google Maps and design your own map, you are able to access it from any location using the same username and password without having to download or install any application. At this time, the new function contains several tools to design the borders of your map such as placemarks, line drawers or shape drawers. Using them, you can select a certain territory, configure with your own locations and place your desired description for them.

At this time, My Maps is available only in the United Stated and some other countries including Australian, UK, France, Japan, Canada, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain. The product is also compatible with other services designed by the search giant and allows you to enhance the selected content with their features. For example, you can add a placemark for a certain location and then customize the description provided by adding other Google Maps locations or even YouTube videos straight into the balloon notification. If you want to test the new feature, you can try it by visiting Google Maps and clicking on the My Maps tab, placed near the Search Results button.

"Who better to create maps than local experts? My Maps makes map-making universally accessible to anyone," Jessica Lee, product manager for Google Maps, said in an interview, according to Reuters.
