The Google+ apps and site have gotten some new features

Ghost town or not, Google+ is getting plenty of attention from Google, too much attention perhaps. The latest updates focus on the mobile apps, for both iOS and Android, though not all new features are available in both apps.

For example, the iOS app now comes with several Snapseed features built in. Google bought Nik Software, the maker of Snapseed with Google+ in mind, so it made sense that Google would eventually build Snapseed into Google+.

Not all of the features from the stand-alone app are available, but basic editing like crop or resize, as well as several filters are available.

Meanwhile, Google is now offering Nik Software's professional plugins as a bundle at a new low price.

The Android version of Google+ is getting a lot of tweaks and fixes, minor stuff that adds up.

There is more text from the posts and comments in the preview you get in a feed. Videos, photos and links now open with just one tap.

Images are now no longer cropped in the feed, so you'll be able to enjoy them as the author intended.

Finally, Google is adding an interesting option to all Google+ users, mobile or not, quasi real-time location sharing.

The idea is to allow users to share their current location with the people they feel comfortable with. This way, your friends will be able to keep track of your journeys as they happen.

Users have to enable location sharing for any of this to work. They can then choose who they share the location data with.

When someone who's allowed access visits your profile, they'll be able to see your location on Google Maps straight from the profile page.

To check out the feature in action, you can head out to astronaut's Chris Hadfield's Google+ page.

His current location, above the Earth, is displayed to everyone. Granted, knowing where Hadfield is at any given time is easy, you just have to know where the International Space Station is.
