Google acquired Incentive Targeting, a company offering a coupon and marketing service to small businesses. It's not exactly something Google is known for, which is kind of the point.

"When we founded Incentive Targeting in 2007, we set out to do for retail couponing what Google had done for online advertising: make it simple, relevant, measurable, and effective," the company wrote in its announcement.

"So, it is both humbling and gratifying to be joining the ranks of the company that inspired our initial vision," it added.

Google has been working on expanding its local business and has been targeting small businesses as a great new revenue source from advertising.

With the new acquisition, Google has one more tool to offer small businesses as part of its package, which includes ads, place pages and reviews, daily deals and so on.
