Monday night, Google's official blog could not be accessed and many assumed that it was the victim of a security hole. But surprise! It wasn't security that caused this incident, but a common delete operation.
Initially, Google announced that the blog could not be accessed for a period
of time, but not because of vulnerability in the Blogger service, and that they are still investigating.
Here's the response after some investigations.
"We've determined the cause of tonight's outage. The blog was mistakenly deleted by us (d'oh!) which allowed the blog address to be temporarily claimed by another user. This was not a hack, and nobody guessed our password. Our bad."
It seems that the name of the user who got his hands on the Google blog is Trey Philips and according to his own blog, lazykarma.com, he didn't hack the Mountain View giant's service.
"Regarding Google's Official Blog, I didn't hack it. I did re-register the username when I noticed, due to a Blogger bug, it had been deleted. I tried keeping it as Google-oriented as possible. Right before I got to another update, Google had regained control of it."
