Staff at Taronga Zoo is walking around with a skip these days, and for one very good reason. Thus, the facility is now home to a baby Goodfellow's tree kangaroo, and word has it that the joey is nothing short of adorable.

Zoo Borns tells us that the tiny tree kangaroo is a girl. It was born at Taronga Zoo in last year's September, yet it spent its first few months of life hidden from sight inside its mom's pouch.

By the looks of it, it has only recently begun to show its face in public. However, it will be some time before the tree kangaroo joey finally ventures outside its hiding place, and goes about exploring the world on its own.

Keepers say that they have not yet settled on a name for the baby Goodfellow's tree kangaroo, but that they expect that it will not be long until they do.

Given the fact that this joey is the first of its kind to have been born at this facility in over 20 years, there is little doubt that its moniker will be one of a kind.

Wildlife researchers explain that Goodfellow's tree kangaroos are native to New Guinea. These animals are often killed by hunters for their meat, and have also lost a considerable part of their habitat over the years.

Because of this, the International Union for Conservation of Nature presently considers the species to be an endangered one.
