Clement Lefebvre and the community behind the Linux Mint project announced yesterday, April 25th, on their official blog that Linux Mint 5 LTS (Elyssa) operating system will reach end-of-life on April 28th, 2011.

Today we are sorry to announce that starting with April 28th, 2011, the Linux Mint 5 LTS (Elyssa) operating system will no longer be supported with security or critical fixes, and software updates. This comes right after the EOL (end-of-life) announcement for Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron), issued by Canonical two weeks ago, on April 11th.

"Linux Mint 5 LTS Elyssa reached end of life. This release was based on Ubuntu 8.04. Repositories will remain open but no more updates or security fixes will be made available. Users of Linux Mint 5 LTS Elyssa are asked to migrate to Linux Mint 9 LTS Isadora (Long Term Release which will be supported until April 2013)." - said Clement Lefebvre in the blog announcement.

We also remind everyone that the Linux Mint 8 (Helena) operating system will reach end-of-life (EOL) on on April 29th, 2011. More information on how to upgrade to a recent Linux Mint version can be found in the original Softpedia announcement.

Linux Mint 5 (Elyssa) was based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) and it was the 5th release of the popular Linux Mint operating system. We strongly recommend upgrading your Linux Mint 5 LTS machine(s) to the current LTS (Long Term Support) version, the Linux Mint 9 (Isadora) operating system. Upgrade instructions can be found in this tutorial.
