If Nick Dunne is innocent of his wife’s disappearance, how come he appears almost relieved it happened?

Gillian Flynn’s crime novel “Gone Girl” is the first of her works to receive the film feature adaptation treatment and, as it so happens, it’s also one of the most anticipated releases of the year 2014. Embedded below is the second full trailer for it.

Unlike all previously released footage, this one offers a better look at the chaos that breaks out in Nick Dunne’s (Ben Affleck) life once his wife Amy Dunne (Rosamund Pike) goes mysteriously missing from the family home.

As he struggles to prove to the world he had no connection to the disappearance and as more incriminating evidence comes to light suggesting differently, it becomes clear that he’s hiding something. But what could it be? Is Nick really a cold-blooded wife killer, or is he a victim of some larger plot that he can’t even describe, let alone prove it exists?

The film is directed by David Fincher, and from the looks of the new trailer, it promises to take fans on a thrilling ride towards the answer to that question. As for those of you who read Flynn’s book and already know it, brace yourself for a surprise: some time ago, Fincher revealed that he and Flynn were talking about how to come up with a different ending for the movie than in the book.

In other words, we’re all in the dark here but I for one am looking forward for the ride.

“Gone Girl” also stars Neil Patrick Harris, Tyler Perry and Emily Ratajkowski, and it will be out in October.
