He also went John Travolta on Quvenzhané Wallis

Ricky Gervais offended so many celebrities and their fans when he hosted the Golden Globes, and he received such flak for it, including from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, that it was a wonder he was asked back to the gala, if only as presenter for one category.

He didn’t disappoint or lose his edge in any way, I tell you that.

Gervais walked up on stage to present Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes 2015, with a glass of wine in one hand and the card in the other. He seemed intoxicated, or at the very least in a very, very good mood. And he proceeded to roasting the celebrities in attendance.

“I’m not going to start picking on things you've done, haha,” he said at one point. “Some of it immoral. A lot of it illegal. If we've learned one thing, it's that famous people are above the law. As it should be.”

He named some of the celebrities he wouldn’t talk about but who had done horrible things to be where they were: Streep, Clooney, Katie Holmes. Meryl Streep was the only one the camera zoomed in on at this, and she seemed to be having a blast – as also did most celebrities in the room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

Right before presenting the award to Amy Adams for “Big Eyes,” Gervais put his foot in his mouth by mispronouncing Quvenzhané Wallis’ name as something that sounded like Quaven Johnny. Perhaps funnier was his mention that he had rehearsed saying the name because he didn’t want to go through what John Travolta went through at the Oscars 2014 when he gave Idina Menzel a brand new name, Adele Dazeem.

Better luck next time!
