If you ever needed the most accurate approximation of Prince’s fame and popularity, his surprise appearance at last night’s Golden Globes 2015, where he presented the award for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture, can offer it to you.

You know someone’s insanely famous and beloved when he walks into a room packed with A-listers and they completely lose their cool, which is what happened at the gala when he popped up on stage, looking his usual cool cat and smiling widely.

It’s not that all the celebrities in attendance got up for a standing ovation because they were told to do that by producers: you can tell from the video and the GIFs below that many of these stars were thrilled and surprised to see Prince up there.

Considering how rarely he comes out for these events, it’s no surprise. Few are lucky to see him in person, unless he’s touring.

To make the moment even better, the winner was “Glory” from the movie “Selma,” performed by rapper Common and crooner John Legend. The only reason no one is upset with Common right now for not letting Legend speak more is that he said beautiful things about equality and justice and discrimination. Of the people the camera singled out in the room, not one did not have tears in their eyes.

Below is a low-quality video of the moment and the song “Glory.”
