Fashion Police is back, Kathy takes over from Joan Rivers

Many watching the Golden Globes 2015 ceremony, which took place on Sunday in Beverly Hills, and particularly the red carpet festivities, were impressed with Amal Clooney’s choice for an accessory that would make her black Haute Couture Dior dress pop: a pair of white leather gloves from her personal collection.

While most people seemed to love them (and her for wearing them), Kathy Griffin, who made her debut on E!’s Fashion Police the other night, filling the spot left vacant after Joan Rivers’ death last year, did not. On the contrary.

Kathy puts Amal under the microscope, Amal comes up short

A segment from the Fashion Police episode is available below, with Kathy ripping into Amal mercilessly and Kelly Osbourne agreeing with her on that the gloves were a very uninspired, downright ridiculous choice.

At the beginning of the show, Kathy acknowledged Joan and said that she’d promised her she would not be holding anything back in her fashion commentary, especially not now, with the awards season in full swing and such a major gala as the Golden Globes having just taken place.

Kathy hated the gloves on Amal, because they reminded her of a scene from an adult movie, in which the female lead wears nothing but such an item because she’s playing the “naughty dishwasher.”

Kelly said that they reminded her of a documentary she’d seen, when a veterinary was pulling out a calf out of a cow, and he had similar gloves on. Both laughed with pleasure as they mocked Amal for her red carpet choice.

Amal is “annoying”

“Yeah, she’s annoying,” Griffin also said at one point, though she didn’t elaborate on what it was exactly that made Amal this way. “You heard me! Everybody run in fear! I thought it was weird she had those gloves.”

“I’m fascinated how we’re like, not supposed to make fun of her because she married the great George Clooney,” she added. “Look, everybody’s on the table, George! Nobody’s safe, nobody gets a pass.”

In all fairness, Kathy and Kelly aren’t the only two fashion watchers to take issue with Amal’s gloves, which seemed out of place at the event and were mismatched to the gown. Shortly after Amal stepped on the red carpet, the gloves had gotten a life of their own on social media, becoming as infamous and talked about as Angelina Jolie’s leg pose at the Oscars 2012.

Amal’s Gloves have as many critics as they have defenders, but only Kathy and Kelly have come up with such… vivid and colorful comparisons for them, at least on television.
