14 DAY TRIAL // Jennifer Lopez was one of the most show-stopping appearances at the Golden Globes 2015, held on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, wearing two of the most revealing and outrageous dresses for the actual ceremony and the afterparties.
All that attention on her outfits distracted from her most prized “accessory,” the handsome young man on her arm. He was Ryan Guzman and he’s her co-star in the thriller “The Boy Next Door,” which Jennifer has been very busy promoting in recent weeks.
He might also be her newest boytoy.
Jennifer and Ryan are an item
That JLo brought the young and handsome actor as her date isn’t that surprising, since it’s what best serves the purpose of shilling for the film: they could have arrived together for the red carpet poses but then met with their real dates inside.
However, she also left with him for the aftparties, and perhaps more tellingly, she also left one such party in his company, Page Six reports.
The two were spotted inside the Weinstein Co. and Netflix’s party, which had the most exclusive guestlist of the lot, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Amy Adams, Dominic West, Rosamund Pike, Katie Holmes, Keira Knightley, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Rita Ora and 50 Cent.
They sat together, and from what an insider reveals, they were pretty much inseparable throughout the night. Moreover, “at one point, Ryan moved back on the couch and then he put his arm around Jennifer.” And “they also left together.”
Possible clever PR stunt
Those rumors about possible on-set romances that dissolve into thin air when a movie ends its theatrical run are common fare in showbiz. There’s even a term for them: fauxmances, which means they’re fake romances, with rumors planted to the glossies and the tabloids by movie studios or over-zealous publicists looking to boost their clients’ chances at the box office.
This is actually a tested and tried method of drumming up publicity for a film, especially if it has a romantic angle, and it has been done too many times to keep track. However, perhaps one of the most ridiculed fauxmances online is that between Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler, which was meant to catapult the rom-com “The Bounty Hunter” to box office glory. It didn’t.
This isn’t to say that Jennifer isn’t dating Ryan or that she’s only “dating” him for publicity reasons, though that’s an option that should not be discarded in the context of this industry practice.
Then again, if they are a couple, as boytoys go, Ryan would actually be pretty old. Jennifer Lopez’s previous young lover, Casper Smart, was 24 when they hooked up. Madonna has dated a 22-year-old model, Jesus Luz. Linda Hogan dated (and became engaged) to an 18-year-old friend of her son, after her divorce from Hulk.
