One of the golden rules of fashion says that you should never wear red on a red carpet, or run the risk of passing by unnoticed. These two ladies we’re going to talk about today are the exceptions that make the rule, while also proving that real beauty and glamour know no age.
Of all the female entertainers who walked down the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2015 on Sunday, few had the elegance and style of Dame Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda, both of whom looked breathtaking in red.
Helen Mirren wears Dolce & Gabbana
Dame Helen Mirren is 69 years old, but she remains one of the most remarkable presences on most red carpets – and not only. Whenever she steps out, she’s perfectly composed and stylish, but she also has plenty of sex appeal.
Mirren is a woman who looks wonderful and who knows how to dress for her age and figure, in a way that few other actresses know. She always manages to find just the perfect balance between age-appropriate and glam, between sexy and stylish.
If she’d write a book on how to dress for a red carpet, she’d probably make more money than she does now with acting.
For the Golden Globes, she wore an embellished, form-fitting Dolce & Gabbana dress in blood red, huge diamond drop earrings, a red clutch and light makeup with bright red lips.
However, perhaps the most striking thing about her appearance wasn’t that she looked so good (since she normally wows on her public appearances) but her choice for an accessory: she wore a fountain pen for a brooch, in support for the slain cartoonists of Charlie Hebdo in Paris, France.
Also on the red carpet, the actress posed with a “Je Suis Charlie” sign, taking a stand for the freedom of expression.
Jane Fonda wears Versace, kitten heels
Jane Fonda gave Helen Mirren a run for her money in the “wow” department: always the fitness fanatic, the 77-year-old actress went for an even more dramatic gown than the Dolce & Gabbana on Mirren.
For the big night, Fonda opted for a very tight, off-the-shoulder red Versace dress, with cut-out detail on the side. She paired the bold dress with snakeskin glitter Jimmy Choo’s Aza kitten heels and a bright red clutch.
Though she attended the gala with her longtime boyfriend, Jane walked the red carpet with “9 to 5” co-star Lily Tomlin, with whom she also presented Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical. The award went to Michael Keaton for “Birdman.”
