George Clooney was honored with the prestigious Cecile B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes 2015, which took place last night in Beverly Hills and were hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey for the third and last time.
He was presented with the award by Don Cheadle and Julianna Margulies, both of whom worked with him in the past and consider themselves friends. After their introduction, which you will find embedded below, the HFPA played a montage highlighting some of the most famous movies with Clooney, as actor and director.
“Batman & Robin” (1997) wasn’t among them.
Even his voice work in “South Park: Bigger, Better and Uncut” was referenced, but not his infamous Batman role – or his equally infamous nipples.
The montage included footage from “Gravity” and the upcoming “Tomorrowland,” “Good Night and Good Luck,” “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” “Syriana,” “ER,” “Oceans,” “The Ides of March,” “Leatherheads” and “Three Kings,” to name just a few. But no Batman.
Clooney has never made a secret of how ashamed he was about how his take on the iconic character turned out, particularly because of the nipples on the suit, so perhaps the HFPA and the producers thought it best that they let that one slide. The Internet though isn’t that quick to forget.
People watching the gala at home noticed the omission immediately, and they went from surprise (“What? No Batman in the George Clooney montage?”) to sarcasm (“I’m happy to see the industry is finally acknowledging Clooney’s work in ‘Batman’!”) in a matter of minutes.
Below are just some of the things people are saying on social media about the omission right now. While no one is that naïve to assume the montage could have possibly included all of Clooney’s films, leaving “Batman” out seems to have been on purpose.
The HFPA probably "forgot" to put Batman & Robin in George Clooney's DeMille Award montage #NeverForget

You'll notice they left Batman out of that sizzle reel. (It's for the best.) #GeorgeClooney #GoldenGlobes
