Come here, “I haven't kissed a girl in a few years on TV”

At last night's Golden Globes 2012, airing live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, it was all in the name of good fun. Ricky Gervais returned as host of the ceremony for a third time in as many years – and he made sure he lived up to the hype.

That is, until Madonna took to the stage and put him in his place, also in the name of fun. Video of the segment is below.

While introducing the singer as presenter, Gervais made sure he cracked plenty of jokes about her status as Queen of Pop by referencing some of her iconic tracks.

“OK, our next presenter is the Queen of Pop. Not you, Elton [John], sit down,” Gervais joked, as the camera zoomed in on a not-quite-so-amused Sir Elton John.

“She's all woman. I'll give you some clues: She's always vogue. She's a material girl. And she's just like a virgin,” he added with a sarcastic cough. “Please welcome Madonna.”

Madonna came in all smiles, waiting for the wild applause to die down before speaking. When she did, she made sure she left Gervais no way out.

"If I'm still just like a virgin, Ricky, then why don't you come over here and do something about it?” Madonna quipped, as the audience went wild with laughter and applause.

“I haven't kissed a girl in a few years – on TV. Hmm, OK. Moving right along,” she added.

Behind her, Gervais was seen running from one side of the stage to the other, thus drawing even more laughter from the audience.

Granted, the bit described above was scripted, as was the entire show, most likely. Nevertheless, it was still fun and, even if Gervais toned it down by a lot as compared to 2011, he still did a pretty good job as host, word online has it.

Check out the video below, which also includes a bit with Ricky and Johnny Depp, where he gets Johnny to “admit” he still hasn't seen his own movie, “The Tourist.”

Let us know in the comments section how you feel about Gervais' third stint as host of the Golden Globes. Would you want him to return for a fourth year?
