Some of you might still remember the great arcade/PC title Golden Axe - it was sure fun playing the title back then and it will probably be even more fun doing it now, after so many years. Golden Axe Beast Rider is under development by Secret Level and it is set to be released sometime this year (no specific dates have been given, though) for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

It won't really be a remake, but rather a re-telling of the Golden Axe story: players will only be able to control Amazon warrior Tyris Flare in her quest to defeat the Death Adder. The story is quite simple and predictable: Tyris has lost all her loved ones to the evil Adder and now, she wants revenge. Both magic and melee weapons will be available to you and, the most important and interesting thing - lots of massive beasts to mount and fight against.

"Golden Axe is one of our most treasured brands and is a complete re-imagining of the story that will take gamers on an unforgettable journey," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "The vision we have for the remake of Golden Axe is nothing short of remarkable and it can only be realized on the PLAYSTATION 3 system and Xbox 360."

The game already looks incredibly well and, even though many of us will still feel the need of playing with that dwarf we had in the first game, Tyris will sure manage to get a few fans in the world. And when we think about the fact that the developers have already polished a great, huge, single player campaign (twelve hours of gameplay is what they call huge) and some really cool realistic dismemberment, we can only say that Golden Axe Beast Rider is a real hit already.
