Apple’s retail staff is about to undergo rigurous training

Going by statements made by CEO Tim Cook during the Q&A of its latest quarterly earnings call, Apple is expected to begin selling its glorious new watch next month. There will be three distinct versions of the wearable, one of which is draped in gold.

While the entry-level Sport version will sell for an affordable $350 / €350, it is estimated that the steel model will cost around $500 / €500, to make up for the materials and the bigger display. However, the gold-adorned Apple Watch Edition is a different matter altogether.

Apple to equip its stores with luxury safes

Sources familiar with the ongoing launch preparations say that Apple will outfit its retail stores with safes similar to those being used in jewelry stores. The safes will be used solely to house the gold watches, which include boxed units and one display unit that is currently connected to a MagSafe charger for a constant-on appearance.

It’s normal for a product of such high value to receive special attention when it comes to storage and display, especially so when Apple stores are often targeted by thieves. Just a couple of weeks ago, it was reported that a pair of burglars managed to dig their way in and out of an Apple retail store fleeing the scene with dozens of iPhones.

Naturally, Apple is taking extra precautions to make sure that the pricey Apple Watch Edition will not share a similar fate. For who’s asking, the gold model is expected to fetch $5,000 (€4,000) a piece.
