In Godzilla Unleashed: Double Smash, a giant meteor hits the Earth, an insidious plan of Space Godzilla. The player can assume the role of two monsters from the movie, from a total pallet of ten, given the choice to change them in-game. This can be Godzilla, Mothra, Destroyah, or others. The purpose of the titles is to defeat the other monsters and the army that they represent. The final challenge of the game is Space Godzilla itself and once again restoring peace and bringing the world back to normality, as much as a giant reptile can bring the world to normality. Each of the monsters offers a different gameplay and the gamer can unlock others by completing the title. Both screens are used to show the gameplay, with monsters appearing from all over, be it from the air or from the ground.

The game lacks in every aspect, be it major or minor. The graphics look like they were made by a one-handed, four-year-old kid, it has a short and boring story, a dull and unrewarding gameplay, hampered even further by the lack of a save option. The title forces the player to go through it in one single dash or start from scratch. It's more of a test of will power, patience and compassion than skill. Godzilla may be better left somewhere in a dark and damp cave, where it could sleep for the rest of time.

The game was published by Atari, Inc. and developed by Santa Cruz Games. It's a 3rd-person, side-scrolling, action game that earned a PEGI rating of 7.
