The developer plans to revive the genre alongside Black Ops II

David Jaffe, who is the original developer of the God of War series and recently rebooted Twisted Metal, has IGN that he has two big options when it comes to his next game project, one of which seems pretty close to the standard first-person shooter formula.

He stated, “There is a gun in. And you hold it. And all the things that I can sit here and passionately discuss and preach to you are absolutely things that I’m thinking about doing if it turns out the game we’re thinking about doing gets made next involves a gun and a person holding a gun.”

The developer did not elaborate on the mechanics for his other potential project.

The developer has also spoken about the recently released trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops II saying that “I love the genre, but I feel it has been allowed to go a little – well, actually, quite a lot – stale when it comes to moment to moment mechanics.”

Recent rumors have suggested that David Jaffe and his team were ready to switch genres and work on a casual browser-based title, but the game developer says that this is not the case, although he is interested in creating a game that will appeal to as many potential players as possible.

Eat Sleep Play has so far only created video games from the PlayStation branded home console from Sony and presumably the next project will also be published by the company.

It’s possible that Sony is allowing Jaffe to have access to its next-generation console and that his new game will be ready to pick up when the much-rumored PlayStation 4 is ready to go on sale.

Sony’s official line is that the PlayStation 3 has a ten-year life cycle and that it has no plans to reveal a new gaming platform during 2012.
