There was no doubt that the launch of
God of War III would have an impact and the action game created and published by Sony has the potential to beat previous sales records set by the series, reaching first place on release in the United Kingdom and set to make an impact when the NPD Group numbers for the United States in March appear.
With the PlayStation 3 home console exclusive sitting in first place in the United Kingdom videogame chart, Electronic Arts, the publisher, and DICE, the developer, must be pleased to see that
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is still in second, where it was last week, while Final Fantasy XIII from Square Enix dropped two places to third. Battlefield 2 must be benefiting from the attraction of its multiplayer modes and from the announcement that new maps will be coming on March 30.
Just Dance, the casual title from Ubisoft, slipped one place to fourth, while Metro 2033, the post apocalyptic shooter set deep in the metro network of Moscow, managed to launch in fifth place, which is quite impressive for a little known project from Eastern Europe. Wii Fit Plus from Nintendo has been pushed down one place to six, probably because of the strength of the new releases, while Heavy Rain from Quantic Dream and Sony saw a drop of three places from four to seven.
Wii Sports Resort sits in eighth place, with Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing also seeing a drop of two places to reach number nine. The top ten is closed down by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward and Activision Blizzard, which will probably bounce back soon after the Stimulus pack is launched on March 30 with five multiplayer maps.
Dragon Age: Origins – The Awakening launched in eleventh place, which is quite good for an expansion, while Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight has only managed to debut in twelfth place.
