The PSP's future looks really shaky now

Lots of discussions regarding the future of the PlayStation Portable were started by different people during the previous weeks and the general rule of thumb is that Sony's handheld is going down and needs to be saved. However, this news we're bringing you today has nothing to do with the rescue plan of the PSP (it is just a confirmation of the fact that something has to be done): Ready At Dawn, God of War: Chains of Olympus developers have just announced that now, with the Japanese version of the game going gold, they are done with PSP development.

Even more, the official website has a picture of all the devkits used by the members to develop the games - everything is packed and ready to be shipped away. Here's what the short news post reads: "With Chains of Olympus going Gold in Japan, we're now officially done with PSP development. So today we sent all our devkits back and seeing all these boxes ready to be picked up definitely marks the end of an era here at Ready At Dawn. Can't wait to show you guys what we have in store?."

Although we are really interested to see what they have "in store" and find out if they're turning into multi-platform developers (this would be the smartest thing to do for such a talented team), we must note the fact that the PSP has just lost one of their best and most successful developers - and probably the first who managed to prove that a handheld can be as great as a regular console.

Ready At Dawn have made their debut with Daxter, the game which has sold no less than two million copies to date. Also, their super hit God of War: Chains of Olympus is the highest ranked PSP title in history, according to website Metacritic.
