Sony Pictures Television and Verizon Wireless announced the launch of God of War: Betrayal, the mobile version of the popular PlayStation game. Available on Get It Now-enabled phones, the game allows players to play the role of Kratos, the feared Spartan warrior, in his quest as the new God of War.

The story takes place after the events of the first PlayStation 2 title, when, after returning from a bloody campaign, Kratos is accused of having betrayed the Olympians. The player's job is to help Kratos clear his name and win back the favor of Olympus.

God of War: Betrayal features a cutting-edge mobile character animation engine and animated foreground and background elements that help players enjoy the intense combat action. Gamers have a variety of tricks at their disposal, including combo attacks on the ground or in the air, the possibility of attacking their enemies while climbing walls or hanging from a rope, freezing enemies and summoning the Army of Hades to unleash the fury of the underworld. Gamers will be able to use weapons familiar from the console version such as the Blades of Chaos and the Blade of Artemis. During battles, players can trade experience orbs to upgrade weapons and magic attacks. Apart from having to fight enemies, gamers also have to deal with deadly traps like saw blades, bottomless pits, jagging spikes and more.

"We are committed to bringing to market innovative mobile properties and the launch of God of War: Betrayal is testament to that dedication," said Eric Berger, vice president of mobile entertainment, Sony Pictures Television. "By bringing this popular Sony Computer Entertainment America title to Verizon Wireless customers, we will both expand the franchise to gamers on the mobile platform, and provide a thrilling and satisfying gaming experience to the existing God of War fans."

God of War: Betrayal is available to Verizon Wireless customers with Get It Now-enabled phones for $3.99 monthly access or for $7.99 daily access.
