After the pretty major leak earlier today, Sony has now come forward and officially revealed God of War: Ascension, the next title in the series developed by its Santa Monica studio.

The God of War franchise impressed lots of people when its first two titles came out on the PS2, and later with its two installments on the PSP. The definitive experience came with God of War III on the PS3, which set a new standard in terms of quality.

Now, God of War: Ascension has been officially revealed as the next installment in the series and will arrive exclusively on the PlayStation 3.

“God of War fans rejoice! Infamous Spartan warrior Kratos is preparing to return to the PlayStation 3 system,” Sony said about the new game.

“The most ambitious God of War adventure in the series so far, God of War: Ascension takes us right back to where it all began,” the company added. “Discover the origins of Kratos as he takes his first steps on a now legendary quest for freedom and vengeance.”

Sadly, these are the only details available as of yet about the new game, as its Director, Todd Papy, posted a small statement on the PlayStation blog, saying that more facts would be shared with fans on Monday, April 30.

At 8am PST on that day, Sony will organize a special live streaming event on the PlayStation blog and on the God of War: Ascension Facebook page, where Pappy and other Sony Santa Monica members will be answering questions forwarded by fans about the new game.

For those who have some great inquiries about the new God of War game, Papy advises them to use Twitter and directs them to the official @PlayStation account, followed by the #godofwarascension hashtag.

Expect to hear more details about God of War: Ascension in the next few days. Until then, check out below the official version of the trailer we saw earlier today.
