The recently launched God of War: Ascension might have been one of the most costly video games projects of the current generation, according to a statement from one of the main developers working at the Sony Santa Monica studios.

Whitney Wade, the lead producer of the new Kratos experience, tells a Dutch website, quoted by VG247, that the overall cost for God of War: Ascension was “a mid double-digit million amount.”

It’s unclear whether the 50 million dollars (38.2 million Euro) figure includes marketing or is only associated with development work.

Ascension was launched exclusively on the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony and it came fourth in the NPD Group video game chart for March on the United States market.

The new title has performed worse than other games in the God of War series.
