Sony’s Santa Monica studio has just confirmed that the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta stage starts this winter and revealed a couple of new videos with the impressive hack and slash experience.

God of War: Ascension is set to deliver an intense experience in March, 2013, offering a prequel story with the hero of the series, Kratos, as well as a multiplayer mode, for the first time in the franchise history.

We already got to admire videos and details about the online mode and now developer Sony Santa Monica has confirmed that fans will be able to try out the multiplayer of Ascension this winter, when a special beta stage is rolled out for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Besides details about the multiplayer beta, Sony also revealed that the GodofWar.com website now hosts a special social experience called Rise of the Warrior, which can grant early access into the beta and a month of PS Plus membership.

“[Rise of the Warrior] gives you the opportunity to align with either the Spartans or the Trojans and compete via a number of social challenges to earn your army a week of exclusive early access to the Beta this winter, and 30 days of PlayStation Plus,” Sony said on the PS blog.

“And that’s just the first of multiple major army rewards between now and March! If an epic new God of War story and early Beta access aren’t enough for you – you’ll also be able to earn early in-game unlocks for God of War: Ascension multiplayer to get a head-start on the competition, along with exclusive multiplayer weapons and armor for everyone who rises to Champion of the Gods!”

The studio also revealed that the first God players could align themselves with was Zeus, granting them special powers, like the ability to summon lightning. Three other gods will be confirmed until the game’s launch, but you can admire Zeus in a video below.

Besides the Zeus trailer, you can also check out below the first part of a behind-the-scenes series called Unchained, which details the game’s creation process.
